What are the
LSLP Micro-Papers?

As a team, part of our work involves reading and discussing different issues related to our conceptual frameworks, our research methods, and our overall understanding of literacy. However, we have realized that talking about it is not enough. We also need to write about our understandings and share that with other students and practitioners interested in our work.

The LSLP Micro-papers are a series of conceptual, one-page papers by our research team and guest literacy researchers (
such as our partners at the Initiative for Literacy Research in a Digital Age) that introduce concepts and ideas linked to literacy research and our current research lines at LSLP.

Ground Rules

  • The LSLP Micro-Papers are intended to sound non-academic in style. However, they must be they are based on readings and scholarship (as as requisite for publication, all articles must include references) and should therefore serve as a reference to anyone interested in literacies research.
  • All micro-papers undergo a review and editing process to ensure quality. Therefore, we invite literacy researchers and students across the globe to use these micro-papers as reference guides for your own work.

The Review Process

  • The review process begins when authors suggest a topic. The editor either green-lights the draft or makes some suggestions.
  • After that, authors submit their drafts to the editor,  who in turn provides feedback related to content (making sure the text does contribute to our research at LSLP) and formatting (mostly ensuring that texts remain within the one-page format of the micro-papers).
  • In the case of junior authors (i.e. LSLP researchers), the review also includes some edits for grammar and syntax (after all, for many of these young writers, this is their first foray into formal academic writing for publication).
  • The editor e-mails the revised drafts to all authors for their final revisions of the suggested edits.
  • Once authors have approved the revisions or made further changes, the articles appear on our website and we announce their publication across our social media engine.

Call for Submissions

Although most LSLP Micro-Papers are authored by our research team, we are always happy to accept submissions from literacy researchers (both faculty members and graduate students) interested in contributing to the series. Feel free to contact Dr. Raúl Alberto Mora, LSLP Micro-Papers editor, with a brief proposal of the term you would like to write. All submissions must include four parts: Defining the Term, Connecting it to LSLP, Expanding Second Language Research, and References (max. 3).

A Special
Thank You

We drew inspiration for the LSLP Micro-Papers from the Key Concepts by the Center for Intercultural Dialogue. Special thanks to Dr. Wendy Leeds-Hurwitz, CID Director, for allowing us to adapt this idea for LSLP.
